I'm shocked to learn that Michael Crichton has died at the age of 66. According to the AP story, he had been "privately battling cancer." I was just wondering the other day when we might see a new novel from him -- I assumed we'd have the chance to read many more. And now this news...Very sad.
Over a decade ago, Michael and I were email correspondents, discussing topics like writing and filmmaking and depression. He got a kick out of a draft of the Jurassic Park screenplay that I sent him, an online discovery back in the early days of the web. (He hadn't written it and had never even seen it. He later mentioned it in an interview with EW as an example of how you need to be careful about what you read online.) We gradually lost touch after a few years, but he was a smart and funny guy, and always kind.
Michael Crichton was an occasionally controversial figure, using his books to put forward theories like skepticism about global warming or unfettered scientific research or the dominance of the Japanese economic model. More importantly, though, he knew how to tell a good story, packing his books with action, adventure and lots of fun. He wasn't a great prose stylist, but he knew how to entertain. I always looked forward to his books with a sense of anticipation, knowing I'd be in for a good time.
It's been a tough time for the literary world these past few months. My sympathies to Michael's family.
It's sad to seem him go.

I remember very well, under any circumstances the first time I had the opportunity to learn about it. I began to notice that some of the young doctors under training in the postmortem department was not averse to gossip over whether many of scrapings taken during cleaning them reveals the presence of pregnancy. Endometrectomy reassign patients for various reasons - there were complaints about the irregularity of the cycle of pain and uterine bleeding - but some of the scrapings of tissue confirmed the interrupted pregnancy. I was very worried, because the trainees were still very young and too talkative. At the same time, right in the lab, I pulled them, saying that it was not a topic for conversation, and that this kind of jokes they can cause serious damage to the reputation of an experienced physician. The conversation was over and more prudent not renewed. Then I went to Arthur to himself to talk to him. I met him in the hospital cafeteria.

You asked a very serious matter, the most important to you now, but before you answer it, I would like to ask anybody. What do you think are the duties of "a higher power", the existence of which you have not yet been denied, in relation to man? If making the life of every "ordinary person" who "all", as can be more comfortable, it is obvious that this "higher power" in their duties can not cope. But the fact is that Christians in such a "higher power" never believed. God in whom Christians believe, this person, contact with which is the meaning of life for everyone.
Man is created to Eternity: we reliably know that there will be a point where your consciousness, just as the consciousness of any other person disappears, and earthly life is given to man as the preparations for the Eternity. We are also aware that the one who in this life does not find the path of his personal relationship with God, communion with Him forever, this is hopeless, incomparably worse than the suffering that you have to suffer with your child. Every person is given certain conditions for spiritual growth to meet with eternity, each their own.

Despite the lack of clear data on the causes of cancer, for each disease can be traced many links with factors that may provoke it. Thus, among smokers several times increased risk of lung cancer - the most common and one of the most dangerous cancer. In addition, smoking is a risk factor for many other cancers.
